Canada Hockey Dominance Reaffirmed With Latest World Title

The 19-year-old Edmonton Oilers centre had collected eight assists in the first nine games of the tournament, but was one of just two Canadian forwards not to have recorded a goal coming into the gold-medal game.

Predators defenseman Mattias Ekholm also participated in the World Championship, posting one goal in two games for Team Sweden. It then ousted the Czech Republic 2-1 in a quarterfinal shootout Thursday and led Canada 3-2 before falling 4-3 in the semifinals Saturday.



Canda's clash with Finland on Sunday will be a repeat of the final game in Group B, which saw the Finns thrash them 4-0.


Earlier, host nation Russian Federation won the bronze medal with a crushing 7-2 win over the United States.
