Fashion Tips for Women

It’s something we do every day — wear clothes! So, it somehow makes sense that we all have a few clothing tips and tricks up our sleeve. Everything from style and fashion to little tricks that help with all of the dilemmas we have with our bra straps, tight jeans, and uncomfortable shoes. These are all clothing tips that made me think “Why didn’t I think of that?!”. So, I thought I’d pass the wisdom on for other people that wear clothes. I figured there were a lot of you, so here we go!

History of Fashion
Modern fashion began with Charles Frederick Worth, who was the first designer to have his own label sewn into his garments. As in the fashion world today, Worth dictated what the fashion of the day was, telling his customers what to wear as opposed to them telling him what to design for them. For the longest time, until well after World War II, the fashion world was centered around Paris, France.

Discover Fashion

The secret to remaining fashionable includes watching worldwide fashion trends and then finding styles within those trends that fit a shopper’s body type and budget. However, since every woman can’t possibly own everything new and exciting for each season, below are 10 tips to maintaining a fashionable wardrobe.

10 Fashion Tips

Every shopper would like to know how to make the best decisions when it comes to fashion. The following section contains 10 tips every woman should know before buying new wardrobe items.

Top 10 Fashion Tips for Women

  1.  Focus on strengths
  2. Quality versus quantity
  3. Create a personal look
  4. Try new things
  5. Simplicity is best
  6.  Don’t break the bank
  7. Take note of fashion trends
  8. Accessories make the outfit
  9. Tailor an outfit
  10. Implement the basics

The following detailed 10 fashion tips offer women some guidance on fashion-forward thinking.

1. Focus on Strengths

Shoppers need to know the ABCs of fashion: Accentuate, Balance, and Camouflage. Shoppers should also look for styles that accentuate their body’s strengths and downplay their weaknesses. For example, shoppers who have an hourglass figure should wear clothing that accentuates those attributes, including scooped or V neck outfits, vertical striped outfits, or dresses and one-piece outfits that cinch at the waist. For tall women, for instance, avoid stripes, which make a wearer look even taller. To create volume, add colors and patterns to pants or skirt.

2. Quality Versus Quantity

Always buy fashion pieces with quality in mind. A few really good pieces will do a shopper better than numerous items that might not have as much of an impact. Another strategy: Buy a few pieces that shoppers look fabulous in and then augment those classics with more trendy items over time.Quality does not always mean high cost.

3. Create a "Personal" Look

Look for clothing designs, certain cuts, and styles that look the best and offer superior comfort. Buy more than one if something is found that works. For example, if a shopper finds a pair of jeans that accentuate her glamorous attributes, she should consider buying multiple pairs in more than one color. The best way to make a powerful and lasting impression through fashion includes developing a fashion style that others won’t forget.

4. Try New Things

While sticking to what works best, shoppers should also try new fashions out. This doesn’t mean abandoning what has worked for shoppers. One way to experiment with new fashions and still save money is to buy pre-worn clothing that remains in great condition.

5. Simplicity Is Best

Staying simple is usually the best way to go. This goes for both makeup and wardrobe items. When in doubt, keep the accessories to a minimum and use timeless, classic fashion styles, such as a black dress with red pumps. When wearing makeup, shoppers should use only enough to highlight the best features of their face: cheekbones, lips, or eyes, for example.

6. Don’t Break the Bank

Shoppers don’t have to buy the most expensive items to be fashionable. Less expensive items can work just as well, especially if they play toward a shopper’s strengths. So, instead of buying an expensive Versace dress, shoppers could instead buy a less expensive Banana Republic dress.

Used items of fashion are also an option, especially lightly used clothing. This way shoppers can get the items they want in almost-perfect condition at a much lower price point compared to new items.

7. Take Note of Fashion Trends

Shoppers should keep their eyes on the latest fashion trends. That said, shoppers should only adopt those styles that match their body type and personality. If the latest fashions do not look good on a shopper and accentuate their strong points, it doesn’t matter if those fashions are in style or not.

Read magazines such as Allure, ELLE, and Fashion Magazine to keep up on the latest styles. This allows shoppers to keep up with the latest fashion news and trends, especially in regard to upcoming seasonal options.

8. Accessories Make the Outfit

Shoes and other accessories can make or break an outfit. A perfect belt or piece of jewelry can really tie an outfit together and make a statement. Another important tip: Do not overdo the accessories. As stated above, shoppers should keep their outfits simple. This goes double for makeup, as too much looks gaudy and draws too much attention away from the entire ensemble.

Mix and match accessories between outfits. Also, neutral colors and blacks and browns are best to extend the use of accessories between outfits.

9. Tailor an Outfit

If shoppers can afford it, they should have their outfits properly tailored to fit their body. Wearing clothes that look custom made is a first step towards taking a standard look from plain to fashionable. Another way to assure a good fit: Go for a fitting.

10. Implement the Basics

The basic wardrobe items every woman should own include a black dress, a blazer, a pair of great-fitting denim jeans, a classic pump, a neutral handbag (black, brown, or both), a leather jacket, and a ballet flat. With just these few articles of clothing and accessories, shoppers can come up with a fashionable ensemble on the spur of the moment.

Neutral colors, blacks, and browns are best for establishing a basic fashion wardrobe. Throw in some whites, such as a blouse or pumps, and shoppers are set.

Four Smart Tips To Improve Your Summer Style

In addition to rising temperatures and weekend trips, summer brings with it a hard-to-shake urge to shop. Maybe it’s because the weather’s heating up and those weekend jaunts require cute new outfits, but refreshing our summer closet is an activity we’re probably not alone in anticipating.

MORE: 4 Ways to Look Less Boring

But before you bust out that credit card, there are a few tips to keep in mind when buying for the summer months; small pieces of advice that’ll ensure you get the most bang for your buck and be as comfortable as you can be during the dog days. Read on for the only 4 summer fashion tips you need to know!

  1. Buy summer shoes a half-size or a full-size larger than you normally would.
It’s not the most pleasant of facts, but our feet swell during the summer. That’s why it’s key—when shopping for new shoes this time of year—to buy shoes a bit larger than you would in winter.

Natural materials like leather, canvas, and suede will definitely stretch, so going up half a size should be fine. For inexpensive trendy shoes made from faux leather, plastic, or any other man-made material, go a full size up.

2. Mind your fabrics.
We love fast fashion as much as the next shopper, but a great deal of merchandise from high-street stores are made from poly-blends that simply aren’t breathable, and will often hold on to sweat stains. To stay cool on steamy days, it’s best seek out materials like cotton—pima or supima is best, but any variety will do—as the fibers are hollow in the center, allowing them to absorb perspiration and release it quickly.

Linen also is a solid summer material—it’s stronger than cotton and a better conductor of heat, making it the most breathable fabric out there. Contrary to popular belief, silk is a good choice for summer as well, since it’s natural, breathable, and cooling. The only downside: It has to be cleaned frequently if you sweat. Also great: super-thin denim.

Make this winter stylish with woollens

As winter knocks on the doors, stock up on a mix of clothes with Bohemian and hippie influences. From asymmetrical jackets, heavy knit mufflers, Grecian-draped knits to peplums and bejewelled headbands - get stylish this season.

Clothes, accessories and new styles - Indian designers suggest a range of options you could use to glam up both everyday life and the party.

"There are many trends and options for women this season, especially for those who like boho chic, floral and gothic looks. People can experiment with them in the most daring manner if they want to stand out, or wear them wisely to look stylish and cool," designer Pam Mehta says.

"But before you choose your clothes, it is important that people identify their strongest body feature and then highlight it with the right attire. Also, it would do great if you learn the tricks to conceal your problem areas with smart layering," says designer Aniket Satam.

"Layering is the key to keep you warm yet chic this winter. Don't simply pile on clothes. Rather invest in smart winter separates, which you can layer to create unique style lines," Satam said.

Some trends in vogue this season are the peplum or fit-and-flare skirts in dense palette like burgundy, sapphire and teal, which add warmth to the eye. One can team them with dainty flimsy georgette lady-like blouses with retro prints.

The faux fur look continues its successful run this year too.

"The leather with fur trimmings, fake fur vests, jackets, boleros, scarves with fake fur trimmings are all in vogue. Also skinny jeans and tights tucked into boots enhance the chic woman in you," said designer Pria Kataria Puri.

For those who like it simple, vibrant coloured knits and chunky knit scarves are a stylish option when teamed with V-neck sweaters, buttoned sweaters and fitted dresses, which are here to stay, Puri said.

Also formal coats with jeans for a semi-formal look and full-length dresses with waistcoats are good for girls.

Fabrics like Cashmere, silk wool, wool crepe, fake fur and stretch denim work best in winter.

What about colours?

"Always pick accent colours for day wear. Evening wear should be sported with deeper blacks, browns and tans. Hues like orange, aubergine, burgundy, purple, teal blue and indigo in fabrics like silk dupion, organza can work wonders," said Pam Mehta.
Accessories can also play a significant role in winter styling.

"Nothing beats the trend of chic cocktail bejewelled hairbands which instantly glamourise any ensemble. Textured stoles in crush silk, handloom scarfs, heavy knit mufflers add character to one's dressing. Try mixing and matching chunky handmade costume jewellery for a dressier appeal," said Satam.

So, hit the markets and start stocking up!
