Make this winter stylish with woollens

As winter knocks on the doors, stock up on a mix of clothes with Bohemian and hippie influences. From asymmetrical jackets, heavy knit mufflers, Grecian-draped knits to peplums and bejewelled headbands - get stylish this season.

Clothes, accessories and new styles - Indian designers suggest a range of options you could use to glam up both everyday life and the party.

"There are many trends and options for women this season, especially for those who like boho chic, floral and gothic looks. People can experiment with them in the most daring manner if they want to stand out, or wear them wisely to look stylish and cool," designer Pam Mehta says.

"But before you choose your clothes, it is important that people identify their strongest body feature and then highlight it with the right attire. Also, it would do great if you learn the tricks to conceal your problem areas with smart layering," says designer Aniket Satam.

"Layering is the key to keep you warm yet chic this winter. Don't simply pile on clothes. Rather invest in smart winter separates, which you can layer to create unique style lines," Satam said.

Some trends in vogue this season are the peplum or fit-and-flare skirts in dense palette like burgundy, sapphire and teal, which add warmth to the eye. One can team them with dainty flimsy georgette lady-like blouses with retro prints.

The faux fur look continues its successful run this year too.

"The leather with fur trimmings, fake fur vests, jackets, boleros, scarves with fake fur trimmings are all in vogue. Also skinny jeans and tights tucked into boots enhance the chic woman in you," said designer Pria Kataria Puri.

For those who like it simple, vibrant coloured knits and chunky knit scarves are a stylish option when teamed with V-neck sweaters, buttoned sweaters and fitted dresses, which are here to stay, Puri said.

Also formal coats with jeans for a semi-formal look and full-length dresses with waistcoats are good for girls.

Fabrics like Cashmere, silk wool, wool crepe, fake fur and stretch denim work best in winter.

What about colours?

"Always pick accent colours for day wear. Evening wear should be sported with deeper blacks, browns and tans. Hues like orange, aubergine, burgundy, purple, teal blue and indigo in fabrics like silk dupion, organza can work wonders," said Pam Mehta.
Accessories can also play a significant role in winter styling.

"Nothing beats the trend of chic cocktail bejewelled hairbands which instantly glamourise any ensemble. Textured stoles in crush silk, handloom scarfs, heavy knit mufflers add character to one's dressing. Try mixing and matching chunky handmade costume jewellery for a dressier appeal," said Satam.

So, hit the markets and start stocking up!

The Big plan of ASOS.com in India?

Online shopping may well have replaced diamonds as a girl's best friend.
And few people have bigger success stories to tell in this space than Lord Waheed Alli. The former founding chairman of Asos.com, the UK-based leader of the online high street cult, is now looking to ply his trade at Koovs.com, an Indian fashion portal that’s hoping to follow the same trajectory.

rajnitsharma1990@gmail.com “When we started Asos 12 years ago, there were a handful of us with four million dollars that we’d raised on the UK stock exchange,” Alli recalls, adding, “And when I left at the end of last year, we were worth 3.5 billion dollars.”

The stratospheric ascent, he attributes to three basic elements: trendy clothes of good quality, competitive prices, and the ability to sell to a bored teenager just browsing the web from her cellphone.
Now, overseeing the launch of Koovs’s first namesake fashion line, Koovs Private Label, Alli insists the same principles apply.  “We’re launching trendy, quality clothing at great prices. We’re not going all out to promote ourselves, because if the clothes are good, people will talk about them. That’s how we live or die in the market.” With him, Alli brings former Asos product director Robert Bready as creative director for Koovs.
While he hasn’t noticed any distinction between the UK market and India – except for our studied love of “sparkle”- Alli promises that all the label’s collections will be as trend forward as the offerings on any international portal.
It's clear that they do not want to depend solely on local clothing manufacturers to keep up with the frenetic pace of fashion trends. And unlike with Asos, Indian customers don't have to wait two weeks to get their hands on the products.
“I was at the New York Fashion Week, and the trends that were on display for Spring/Summer 2013 can all be found in this collection. We have ‘monoplay’ which is black and white, and ‘70s romance (as seen at Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton)," says Alli.

Plans for the website include finding more “Indian-looking models” to connect better with the customer and that all-important catchphrase: designer collaborations.
“There are three in place, but we can only make the formal announcements once the legalities are complete. But I can promise it’ll be a mix – some unknown designers that will blow you away with their talent, and household names that you’ve always wanted to see online.”

Lately Salman Khan is being linked with beautiful girls as always but this time feels that he has been noticed for turning benevolent to international beauties and not anyone from Bollywood,

First it was Lulia Vnetur and now it is Bruna Abdullah. Firstly his alleged girlfriend was especially offered a special role and the icing on the cake was Salman Khan himself turning teacher to help out her in learning Hindi.

it was Salman Khan is widely known for his helping nature towards the upcoming actors and actress. Adding another sensuous Bollywood diva to the list, the sturdy actor is currently busy grooming the Brazilian beauty Bruna Abdalah's Hindi speaking skills.

Bruna was last seen showcasing her sexy moves in a party song of Akshay Kumar and John Abraham starrer 'Desi Boyz'. She has also played a cameo in Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor starrer 'I Hate Love Stories'.

According to a source, "Bruna will be seen playing yet another small role in the much awaited upcoming film 'Mental'. She received a call from Sohail Khan Productions to play the part in the film, which she has already agreed to do."

Despite being offered with a small role, Bruna took it as a huge opportunity of getting to work with such big Bollywood star Salman Khan. After signing the film, it turned to be a learning experience for the sensuous beauty. If the sources are to be believed, Salman Khan helped her the most in learning to speak fluent Hindi. The Dabangg Khan's teachings worked even more than her language teacher Ujjwala.

Talking to the reporters Bruna said, "Whenever we get ready to shoot a sequence of the film, Salman comes up with a brand new idea and the scene was transformed. According to the change in the scenes, the lines of the actors were also changed. With every change in dialogs, I had to rehearse for my new lines. Initially, it was really tough for me, but Salman made it way easier for me. This experience has given me a lot of confidence and now I myself can dub my lines. Now, I am looking forward to work with the actors like Salman Khan and Tabu."

Adding more words to her statement, Bruna said, "I have been learning Hindi from a lady professor Ujjwala, who basically belongs to Germany, from last 6 months. So, she has been teaching me Hindi in the German methods that are way more logical and specific than Hindi. That's why it's not helping me out. Even after this much time, I wasn't grammatically correct at Hindi. But after working with Salman, I am able to dub my lines."

DENIM ON DENIM

Nothing looks more comfy cool than denim on denim; which is exactly what I needed to get me through the day.
Nothing like comfy flats for traveling back and forth from the hotels, some fun neon accessories, and a "lucky" necklace to lift my spirits during the crazy couple of days!

Monsoon Fashion What to wear and when?

That time of the year again - yes, when it is raining cats and dogs. There are puddles to braved over, there is water everywhere and not all of it is wanted! So, how does one manage to step out for work, for college and still manage to look fashionable while trying to save yourself from the water and still make comfort the priority!
Rockying looks at some of the most fashionable monsoon essentials that will make you look super cool and keep it trendy, fun and comfortable! Remember, to mix and match according to the requirements - varying from a drizzle to a heavy downpour.

  1. Rain Boots / Gumboots
When there is a heavy downpour and you have to walk through; then rain boots are your answer. Though they might be a little uncomfortable and might feel heavy; they will keep your feet dry. Given the condition of Indian roads and the polluted water all around, rain boots seem the perfect solution for a walkthrough. Get yourself a pair and make walking around easier! Make sure you pick out bright colors to brighten up your day!
  2. Umbrellas
The staple of the rainy season. Make sure you have something that is large yet easily foldable! Large because they will be people who might step by under your umbrella if there is a heavy downpour and foldable because you can store it easy. Be extra careful that your umbrella is sturdy and doesn’t blow off if there is a little strong wind!
  3. Keep it short
Yes, though many people say you should go for denim and leggings on rainy day; we would say, keep it short if possible. There is nothing worse than a big blotch of a puddle on your pants. And then, having to go through the whole day with wet pants! Opting for shorter skirts, capris, knee length dresses or just denim shorts for a casual day might be a much better choice to go with.
  4. Trench coat
If it’s a heavy downpour and a little chilly, then trench coats are a must have. Not only they help in keeping you dry, they will keep your clothes from getting dirty. Choose coats that drape well (not too tight nor too loose) and that are longer than regular leather jackets.
  5. Waterproof Bags
You are going to be carrying a lot - your wallet, your umbrella and maybe an extra pair of leggings just in case. And one common mishap is when you realize that your bag got wet due to the rain and everything inside it is also wet and spoilt! Save yourself time and energy and go out with a nylon tote maybe. They provide the space and don’t absorb water.
  6. Waterproof Watches
Another neglected essential. The careful way to be is to make sure your watch is waterproof while buying it. Quite a lot of watches now come with that ease, so it shouldn’t be difficult.
  7. Color
Though many people choose to stick to black and grey; there is no reason why you shouldn’t add a dash of color to your ensemble. Another thing to be kept in mind is stay away from white - probably something your mom told you a million times! There is nothing that gets dirtier easily. Mud marks, splashes and just a bad downpour can make you look dirty if dressed in white. Keep away!
  8. Hooded Raincoats
If you have your hands full and want to have it all in one, then go for a hooded raincoat. Saves you the trouble of having to carry an umbrella and you have your hands free!
  9. Flip flops
Though they might be a little uncomfortable if there is too much water on the roads; flip flops make the perfect wear for a walk through a light drizzle. Not only are they very affordable, they are waterproof and dry easy! Coming in various colors and many styles, flip flops make the perfect footwear.
  10. Go light on the makeup
You don’t want to look like you have walked out of a horror movie. Either opt for waterproof kajals and mascaras or go light. Too much foundation can get greasy. If you dare, then go for the natural clean look during the rain!
  11. Tie up your mane
Monsoon is definitely not the best time to let your hair loose. Hair tends to get frizzy during the weather. Keep it dry and well moisturized and tie it up in loose braids or just a simple ponytail. If you are the daring then cut it short!

PENCIL SKIRT

Pencil Skirt If you have a perfect slinky body, then make the most of it by sporting a pencil skirt. It is a slim-fitting skirt with a straight, narrow cut. Try to pick up a short top or a t-shirt tucked inside. This would make you look even more stylish.

FLIP SKIRT

Flip Skirt The flip skirt is generally fitted from waist and then flares around the hemline. Short or long, flips are perfectly designed to make your curves look curvier. Go for light summer shades such as yellow or green and pair it up with a white color top.

FULL CIRCLE / HALF CIRCLE / SARONG

Sarong Skirt, Fill Circle Skirt, Half Circl Skirt The full circle skirt (cut out of a circular piece of cloth) is quite common and suits almost all body shapes.
The half circle skirt, as the name suggests is made of a semi-circular cloth. One with polka dots and stripes stays in fashion all the time.
The Sarong is basically a wrap-around skirt. White colorful patterns give it a more vibrant look. The perfect beach wear, this wrap-around skirt is a combination of style and comfort.

A-LINE

A-Line Skirt The skirt is shaped very much like the letter A. This is the simplest skirt and you can sport it both short and long. Even hem less, like the green above can be the best style to wear in your ‘Summer of No Pants’.
Women on the heavier side, these are the best kind for you as they perfectly skim your curves and make you look in shape.

FISHTAIL

Fishtail Skirt Fishtail skirts are tightly fitted around the hip and flare out from the knee (sometimes higher) to the ground. These are often longer in the back than in the front.
Also known as the mermaid skirt, the style is perfect for those who want to look taller and show off their rear areas.
The slightly different (the girl wearing above) free style fish tails, sitting snugly around your thighs and legs, not only highlight your sexy legs but also downplay those extra curves.

PEASANT

PEASANT Skirt
  • A classic bohemian-inspired fashion, the Peasant is usually a billowing, wide, layered style skirt.
  • Balanced with a fitted top this breezy skirt is meant for those who prefer the ‘hippie-style’. These skirts are mostly worn long and fall well below the knees.
  • A subtle ruffled look and a distinct tint of femininity is what Peasants are all about.
  • Fit for all occasions and body types, these give you a great scope of playing with accessories such as jewelry and belts.

The Rockying 'Skirt-Sporting' Tips

  1. Make sure the top you have chosen goes well with the skirt. Avoid wearing long top with short skirts.
  2. Always try the skirt wearing your shoes to figure out which one suits you the most.
While your tennis sneakers would complement your blue denim skirt, heels would go best with the black-dress skirt and pumps with your black-day-to-night-skirt.
  3. If you are short heighted, show your skin off (this visually elongates your whole body figure)! The more you hide your skin, the shorter you tend to look. If you do not like skin-show, choose footwear that blends with your stockings or skin. For example: Black skirt with black stockings and black shoes or skin colored stockings with the same color shoes will make your legs and you look taller.
  4. The Skirt Essentials
The wardrobe must contain a white summer skirt, a black dress skirt, a dark blue denim skirt and a neutral day-to-night skirt to fight the I-don’t-have-anything-to-wear dilemma. These can be paired with numerous (almost all) colors and styles of tops.
  5. Choose the Right Fit
Skirts that are too tight or too large feel and look uncomfortable. Too tight will make you look bulky and stumpy (if you carry some extra weight on the hips) while the too loose will eat away your curves and make the outfit look sloppy!
  6. The Perfect Length (Hemline)
Perfect for every occasion, the most flattering skirt length no matter height or shape, curvy or slim, is right above or at your knees. To know more, have a close look at this:
